Wait...This Is Actually Working!

I Was Drowning in Ideas. Then I Did One Boring Thing That Changed Everything.

I’m more than excited to share with you the Spotlight Session with

(Jay Corso) — the latest winner of my challenge, and one of the most original voices coming out of Substack’s creative underground.

Jay is a writer, comics creator, and narrative detective who doesn’t just tell stories — he dissects them. His Substack Mindset & Mythos isn’t your typical pop culture commentary. It’s part archival project, part storytelling lab, part meditation on what creativity actually feels like when you’re doing it outside the lines.

He decided to move to Substack from X and now he’s building something entirely different, and entirely his own.

Watch the full video to learn:

  • Why structure is not the enemy of creativity, but the bridge to unlocking it

  • The trick he used to go from idea soup to specific content that speaks directly to his people

  • How he’s growing a paid membership through mystery, participation, and co-creation

Jay’s writing is electric, thoughtful, and fast-moving — but it didn’t start that way. Like many creators, he was all over the place at first. What changed? He stopped resisting the boring parts. Templates, journaling, publishing consistently — all the things he used to avoid became the engine behind his creative clarity.

He also shares:

  • How Notes became a portfolio tool — and why most people are using them wrong

  • Why he believes “perfection equals poverty”

  • What shifted when he stopped listening to the algorithm and started listening to his own voice

  • Why he’s moving toward audio and video on his own terms — and how he’ll keep them short, punchy, and full of value

And while his niche is deeply specific, his advice to creators applies to everyone:

“Don’t try to be perfect. Just get better. Let people see you improve.”

If you’ve ever felt like your ideas were too strange, too scattered, or too niche to build something meaningful — this conversation will reset your brain.

Watch the full episode, and leave your questions for Jay in the comments. He’s the kind of creator who’ll actually answer them.

And remember to subscribe to his Substack (he’s gonna blow your mind with creativity)
