I set up my Quora space about a year and a half ago. Back then I was determined to find a way to monetize my skills online, but I knew nothing about the HOWs.

So I was about to test everything.

I knew I could get paid on Quora, so it was on my list.

Up until now I never started building consistently there. I only shared a few of my Medium articles — just enough to test the playground.

So far I wasn’t earning a cent, which I expected.

But yesterday, when I was sharing my Substack stories on Social Media, I opened Quora to post there too, when I saw this:

I got so excited!

I rushed to my monetization tab and was pleasantly surprised to see I have now all types of monetization enabled:

I haven’t even started working actively for monetization there, and I already have earnings!

Yes, I know, I know….

It’s close to nothing, but it is also for the nothing I did!

I have been much more active on other directly monetizable social media platforms like X, and Facebook, and I can tell you, that you need to work hard to get even a few cents.

But Quora surprised me!

I expected it to be an even tougher nut to crack!

How you monetize on Quora?

Quora is a lot like Medium, but with the benefits of Substack and X. Here’s what I mean:

  • they let you run your own subscriptions on your space — like Substack

  • you can earn from ad revenue sharing — like X

  • with Quora + revenue share you earn from the subscriptions from other paid members on Quora — like Medium

The downsides:

  • the requirements to participate in ads revenue share are (only) to comply with their content policy, but new accounts have to wait. How long — this is not specified. I believe if you’re active more often (than me) you can get it opened earlier. The subscriptions and Quora + are open right away if you’re in an eligible country.

  • affiliate links are not allowed, but I can live with that.

  • you don’t get the customer’s email, but that’s expected for those types of platforms, so I’ll live with that too…

I now have a clear strategy in mind, and I still have a few things to set up first before I go to Quora.

But now that I have earned something without having even started working actively for monetization there yet, it got me thinking…

Should I adjust my strategy to start there earlier than planned? I’m now considering it…

What do you think?

Thanks for reading!
