As you point out, the fastest way to build subscribership on Substack is to offer a plan that is represented to offer a fast path to monetization for writers. And since becoming a “best selling” author on Substack requires only 100 paid subscriptions (likely total annual gross revenue of $4k to $5k), it’s an easy claim to make. But far from the realization of a life-changing promise. Marketers of shortcuts to making money online, IMO, detract from the overall value delivered by a platform such as Substack. Cheers!
Hi Phil, I only share what I've tested and prove to be working. If it feels like a shortcut, then fine with me, but it's a real system that I (and many others from my paid community use).
To be honest, most of the people find it hard to reach that 100 paid subscribers mark. Have you done it?
No, but I’ve only recently begun to press transition of my 14,000 subscribers to paid. My point is not that 100 paid subscribers is inconsequential, only that “I am a Substack ‘best seller’ “ implies a grander demonstrated outcome than “I have 100 paid subscribers” — a spin reminiscent of the Make Fast Money Online hucksters. If you never thought of that, perhaps you should. Just saying, not judging. Cheers!
It depends who your audeince is. I guess yours is different, and that's ok. My people get inspired by this and I'm helping them get there too, because on Substack a lot of things sound unreal, growth hacks, etc. but they are very much doable. Good luck with your transition, Phil!
